"Six Weeks and Counting"
I had to put my Philosophical Quagmire Rampage on hold so I could stress for a bit about my upcoming recital. As of today, it's exactly six weeks away and, at some point soon, it needs to become something more than a date on the calendar. The invitations probably should have gone out by now (although I haven't made them yet). This past week I pulled out a copy of the letter to St. Thomas to double-check what program I'd submitted. Good thing because I could have sworn I'd planned on playing the Prelude and Fugue in A Minor (BWV 543).

It helps that I'm playing pieces I already know but I need to start running through the program in its entirety to work on my endurance. And that's not so much about technical endurance as it is about mental endurance. Maintaining control of things like tempo, evenness of note groupings, phrasing, etc., for ten minutes or more at a time? I can practice the notes all I want but if I'm not prepared mentally, I'm headed for disaster. With my fear of failure, I'm confident I'll pull it together in the end. It's the middle I'm worried about!
